This week, we had the opportunity to go on Pioneer Trek. Robbie and Brett get to go, and Randy and I get to go as Ma and Pa. Tommy and Topher are headed to spend some time with Grandma Buskirk.
Randy and I were really excited because we have never been on trek. So, it was a new opportunity for all of us. We loaded all 12 sleeping bags, and personal bags and extra clothes in our hand cart. It was really tall and somewhat unstable.
We split up into families of a Ma and Pa and 10 children. Rob and Brett each had their own family and were able to have their own experiences, make their own friends without mom and dad being in the way.
Our boys constructed a fabulous structure for us to sleep in. Luckily, it didn't rain, but we would have been fine if it did. The girls cooked a fabulous dinner of Ham, potatoes, and scones. Yum!
We were able to walk on the actual Mormon Pioneer Trail for a lot of the time. This hill is known as Gravel Hill, because it is covered in baseball size gravel, and it is extremely steep. It was hard work keeping the handcart going in the right direction and not getting run over.
As part of the experience, Randy and I were not permitted to touch the cart, that included packing it, nor doing any of the cooking, not tent set up. The kids all did a fabulous job of working together and getting everything done.
As part of the experience, we all were to dress in pioneer clothes. It makes us all look alike, and gets rid of some of the kids identities that are tied up in thier clothes. It also puts the kids in a somewhat uncomfortable area where they are free to have more spiritual experiences.
We saw Brett only rarely. He loved his family and had a crush on one of his sisters.
Rob also had a great experience. Both boys turned out t o be a big help to their families! Yeas Johnsons!
