Front Lawn

So for Memorial Day weekend, most people head for the  mountains, or a lake, or the beach. We decided to re-do the front lawn.  For three weeks, we have been spraying the lawn with Round-Up to kill everything thoroughly. I can't believe how many people have asked us "what happened to your lawn?" and What are you doing???"  I just want to answer "well, we forgot to water it- oops!" or "you think something might be wrong???"

I mean it is orange!  And then they say, what are you doing?  "just getting rid of the dead grass, people!"

So, Friday night we rent a sod cutter, and in less than 4 hours, we have removed and hauled out all the dead sod to a big pile that we plan to dump in the garbage can for the next part of forever...  Good hard work!

Rolling up the dead grass..

Cutting it into pieces we can pick up...

Lots and lots of grass...

Got to haul all the grass to a big pile...

We made a huge pile on the park strip... Just waiting to throw it away...

And then, Saturday, we worked for 8 hours to haul in 10 tons of topsoil. Whew! What a job!  The kids did great and were a big help!  They made up games with Captains and space aliens to keep it fun. And we listened to lots of good music on their IPods which made it go faster.  Just goes to prove, kids can do hard things and make it fun.

Meanwhile, Max takes a rest under the shady tree... wondering what we are all doing....

Several of the neighbors commented on how fast we got such a huge job done...

Today, two weeks later, we are seeing grass-lings pop up. yeah! And I somehow convinced the Sandy City Clean up crew to take the remaining pile of old sod, saving us weeks of dumping sod into the trash cans! Yeah!!!
